Arise ... Awake !
Terror strikes and communal riots in India have a curious history. Over the last 2 decades they have been more frequent and coinciding with their frequency has been the rise of fundamentalist groups and their national prominence.
A party hitherto a fringe party before the early nineties now has risen to become a national party riding on the tide of dubious yet populist and chauvnist ideologies that have forever scarred the social and political fabric of the nation.
The conditions were ripe for the picking for these organisations.... a simmering discontent .. an economy in doldrums and inability of successive governments to govern and to rise above vote bank politics of appeasement .... were all the political capital that they required to maximise thier electoral returns. Divisive politics gathered centre stage.... a dilution of the same by these parties resulted in poor rewards in the electoral battle... hence the thrust now is to go back to what worked wonders for them in the first place.

Even more curiouser has been the favourite targets of the terror strikes.... Mumbai has been a repeated target... so has Hindu temples and the more recent RSS Head Quarters. One need not dwell into deep thought to even wonder why these have been the targets. The aim of any terrorist attack is to create chaos and communal disharmony. And by aiming at these targets ...results are assured as they are strongholds of thier brothers in arms ...their fellow fundamentalists albiet from a different religion. They are assured that even after the strike their "brothers" shall help them ensure that the effects of the same are maximised. So Mumbai can thank Bal Thackeray ( i shall discount the "saheb" that his faithful dogs call him ) and the rest of India can thank the Sangh and its "parivar" for the agony that is piled on us.

Its only the blind who will not see that these extremist outfits feed on each other for survival .They are interdependent ...for one to grow they need the assistance of the other.
I read a post on how these outfits were infact huminatarian as often they are the first ones to be found in the scene of any tragedy... natural or man made. That was so naive an argument that i could not stop myself from a smile. It brought to my mind a story of a chinese general.

Sun Tzu in the Art of War stresses on the need of committed cadres to wage a battle... the story goes that a legendary General on seeing a young man bitten by a snake himself removes the poison from his body and saves his life. The young man's mother on hearing this begins to cry and lament and when someone asked her "when your son has been saved by the great man himself .. why then do you cry ?" . The mother replied "The general had similarly saved my husband too after which he followed the general to his death... now i am sure that my son too shall die .. i know not where"
You read the story and if you still not understand the context ... then chew on this. It has been well documented by the media both foriegn and Indian that the LeT, the terrorist outfit operating from Pakistan "Oppressed" Kashmir were exemplary in their relief efforts when the earthquake struck which has resulted in ground swell of support and gratitude among the local populace . And just because they did that do we clap our hands and hail them as great Humanitarians?

It has been foretold in our ancient texts that there shall come a time when the priest and the learned shall be thieves and manipulate the words of God to suit their needs... the king shall be blind and his ministers incompetent.... the soldiers shall be cowards and sell their weapons .... the business men shall be greedy and the workers shall neither have the pride in their work nor shall they have a workethic.... The Hindus call it the Kali Yuga.
That it has been written do we resign ourselves to fate and believe that what is happenning is destined ? I would rather like to believe what Paulo Coelho in his book "The Alchemist" says "God very rarely reveals the future; and when he does... it is because it was a future written to be altered"
So we the Citizens of Free India have the power to decide on the course of our Nations Destiny. All it would take is each one of us to be aware of the representatives we choose and arise against incompetence of the administration.
All of us know that Social reforms ( to ensure education and health care to all ) , Judicial Reforms ( to ensure speedy disposal of cases ), Parliamentary Reforms ( to ensure that the ruling party does not the have free hand to sell the nations security to foriegners (read USA)) and Police Reforms ( to ensure the guilty are caught and poilitical interference is nil and a Federal Investigative Agency akin to FBI which not only gathers intelligence but also follows up on the leads... at present what we have is an agency for Intelligence Gathering notably the IB ... the leads of which are forwarded to the State Police who are actually incompetent to tackle terrorist threats which need expert and trained personnel).... have all been long overdue.
Its time then we ask the nations lawmakers "Why then is it taking them this long to move towards getting this job done? And when you not moving forward on any of these reforms then why the damn hell do you get paid for and enjoy luxuries at the expense of our money ?"
Its high time that India and Indians arise and make the government and the entire administration machinery accountable.
