POLITICS OF IRRELEVANCE

Another elections.... high on rhetoric...low on purpose. There is not even a pretence or promise of governance. As with more and more elections in recent times.. the elections are being fought banking on provocative politics and personality cults...Its a battle to see who instills the most fear ...who can create the greatest divide amongst the society...Elections now a days is being used by the power hungry politicos ..to create terror...to divide so that they may rule....It would not be an exaggeration to say that ELECTIONS TODAY is the only CONSTITUTIONALLY SANCTIONED TERROR ATTACK on the Indian Republic.

I have only a vague idea of the politics of yore...Atleast from the time i began to form political opinions of my own...that would be mid 1990s ....i have always percieved BJP as the worst serial offender.... Its this party's emergence in the national conscience that saw the degeneration of the "educated or otherwise" issue based political debate into vindictive and divisive politics of hatred....which today is accepted by multitudes of indians as the norm...Most of us would be surprised if election rhetoric was anything but that.

It still amazes me that this party rose in prominence in indian politics with a promise....Not of good goverance...But a promise to build a Temple!!!!.

Maybe a historian looking back at this era ....perhaps on the 100th year of our independence ... assuming ofcourse that by then our democracy would be more evolved.... would pick this as one of the prime exhibhits which exemplified the decadence and immaturity of indian politics of the time.

Now thier political hot ticket to seat of power in delhi...no its not "Bijli, Sadak or Pani" ... no its not "Roti, Kapda or Makaan" .... its "The Trauma of a TERROR SUSPECT"... Yeah Right! Now that is what matters most to the common man in Delhi.

Contrast this with the just concluded US Presidential Elections.... they were intense debate on every topic that really matters....the matter of governance...Healthcare...Education...Social Security..Economy...Taxes...But yes...we in India are NOT facing those issues....if our political parties are to be believed ... all we need is a temple for our Gods...and all we care for is fair trials to criminals.

Our political parties have mastered the art of manipulation... they have learnt the art of playing to our latent prejudices...they feed on preying on our fears.... and they know which chord connects our emotional strings...Development of the nation and aspirations of the people be damned.

Will we forever be caught in thier clutches...Will we ever change ...YES WE CAN...WE CAN BRING DEVELOPMENT BACK TO THE FORE...But for that to happen...WE SHOULD FIRST TAKE A STAND...A STAND AGAINST THE POLITICS OF IRRELEVANCE.

TIll that happens...

Oh Ram... save us!!
